The national and EU flags were lowered at the Voivodeship Office. Officials honored the memory of the tsunami victims with a moment of silence.

On December 26, the disaster struck the countries of Southeast Asia. According to the latest estimates, tsunami waves claimed approximately 150,000 lives. They caused enormous material losses.

In response to the European Union's appeal, President Aleksander Kwaśniewski ordered the national flag to be lowered, while Prime Minister Marek Belka called for three minutes of silence.
