On Friday, August 14, 2026, residents must be prepared for the fact that they will be unable to handle matters in person at many public institutions. This applies both to some local-government offices and to state administration institutions.
The Warta Bolesławiecka Municipal Office announced that it will be closed on August 14. The information was published on August 7.
Tax offices and tax administration chambers will also be closed that day. The National Revenue Administration reminds residents that August 14 has been designated as a day off work for members of the civil service corps.
All ZUS branches will also be closed. The Social Insurance Institution reports that on August 14 it will also be impossible to receive assistance from helpline consultants.
Why are offices closed on August 14?
The reason is the Polish Armed Forces Day and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which fall on Saturday, August 15, this year. Because the holiday falls on a non-working day, many institutions have designated another day as a day off for employees—in this case, Friday, August 14.
This arrangement preserves the day off to which employees are entitled for a holiday falling on a Saturday. In practice, however, this means that people planning to visit an office should account for an additional day when the institution will not be serving visitors.
Official matters can be handled online
The inability to visit in person does not mean that all matters must be postponed until the next working day.
The National Revenue Administration encourages people to use the e-Tax Office service, through which many matters can be handled without visiting an office. A visit to an office can also be scheduled in advance using the “Book an appointment” service.
ZUS also reminds people that online services are available. Through the eZUS portal, users can, among other things, submit applications, use the pension calculator and generate certificates containing data collected by ZUS.
If a matter requires a personal visit, it is therefore worth scheduling it for another day and checking the service hours of the specific institution in advance.
