Readers are reporting attempts to steal their Netflix login credentials and payment card details. The scam works as follows.
We receive an email containing false information about an account suspension and encouraging us to update payment details.
Please update your payment details
Hello!
Unfortunately, we were unable to resolve the problem with your payment, and your membership has been suspended.
After clicking the link, we are taken to a fake Netflix website. This can be discovered by checking the address, which is not "https://www.netflix.com" but rather "https://netflix.pl.josepablonoguera.net. Netflix does not have an address ending in "josepablonoguera.net".
If someone falls for it, they may enter their login details and then their payment card details on the fake Netflix website. This gives the thieves access to our Netflix credentials and payment card information. The whole process can be seen in the video we prepared.
How can you protect yourself from the scam?
Always check which website address you reached after clicking a link or button. Website addresses usually take the form NAME.DOMAIN, such as istotne.pl or netflix.com. Sometimes there may be a subdomain, such as online.mbank.pl, but there should never be any text after the name and domain. When logging in or providing payment details, always check whether there is a padlock next to the address and whether, after clicking it and viewing the certificate, the internet domain name is identical to the address entered. If it is, everything is fine. If not, it is an attempted scam.
