Volunteer firefighters from Przejęsław (Osiecznica municipality):
As the heating season approaches, we remind you:
CARBON MONOXIDE (CO)
In winter, during the heating season, we are at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning in our homes. Carbon monoxide (CO) is an odourless and colourless gas produced, among other things, by the improper combustion of fuels in household heating appliances. It is dangerous to people—in low concentrations, it causes weakness, headache, drowsiness and general malaise. In high concentrations, it leads to loss of consciousness and death.
What can you do to protect yourself from carbon monoxide?
- have chimney flues inspected regularly
- ensure ventilation and air the rooms
- do not underestimate the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning
- install carbon monoxide and gas detectors in your home.
The firefighters add:
The cost of installing detectors is disproportionately low compared with the benefits provided by using this type of device—including saving our lives.
