Coach Dariusz Pachnik:
Our macroregion includes the following voivodeships: Greater Poland, Lubusz, Lower Silesian and Opole. The UKS Orientpark.pl Iwiny athletes competed in the latter, in Zdzieszowice. More than 130 young “orienteers” started (80 female athletes and 52 male athletes).
The competition began on Saturday with a sprint race. Our athletes won half of all the medals in this event. Jędrzej Pachnik took first place among the boys, followed closely by Gracjan Dwojak. The youngest Pachnik, Antek, finished 10th.
Among the girls, Maja Nikołajuk won silver. Julka Halewicz missed a medal by just 6 seconds (5th place), Sonia Szeliga finished 14th, Oliwia Hetnar 19th, Martyna Nikołajuk 24th and Oliwia Roman 28th.
D. Pachnik:
Relays were held in the afternoon. Unfortunately, major organizational confusion affected the final results. In this chaos, two of our relay teams were not classified, and only the first girls’ relay team reached the lowest step of the podium (Julia Halewicz, Sonia Szeliga and Maja Nikołajuk).
How did our runners perform on Sunday?
Coach:
On Sunday, in decidedly better weather, the classic-distance race took place. The boys once again showed their class and won a medal double. Gold went to Jędrek and silver to Gracjan. Antek improved by two places compared with the sprint and finished 8th. The girls did not win a medal, but Maja was again among the leaders, finishing 5th; Oliwia Roman was 18th, Julia Halewicz 20th, Sonia Szeliga 22nd, Martyna Nikołajuk 25th and Oliwia Hetnar 39th.
In total, Orientpark athletes won six medals, which represents one-third of the entire medal haul!!!
And he adds:
This was the best performance by the athletes at the Interprovincial Youth Championships in the club’s history!!!
