The central theme of “Zatargi Halfway There” will be the work of Tadeusz Kantor – a legend of the Polish theatre scene. On 11 and 12 September, five performances will be staged at the Old Theatre in Bolesławiec, including “The Source”, directed by Prof. Leszek Mądzik.

Workshop Friday

This year’s event will open with theatre workshops for young people, led by Grażyna Tabor and Marek Kościółek. At 7:00 p.m., we will begin Zatargi with “The Source” (directed by Leszek Mądzik), a production by the Flying Theatre for Kantor from Wielopole Skrzyńskie.

The artistic project called the Flying Theatre for Kantor is an initiative intended to integrate Poland’s artistic community connected with off, youth and non-institutional theatre around the figure of Tadeusz Kantor.

Theatrical Saturday

Saturday afternoon begins at 3:00 p.m. with the Reaktor Theatre’s performance “Ptam”, based on a text by Krystyna Miłobędzka. The next event, at 4:00 p.m., will be “The Island of the Skinny” by the Dziewiątka Theatre from the Adam Mickiewicz School Complex in Lubań.

A major novelty, not only at Zatargi but also in our city, will be the poetry performance “Poezjokracja”, featuring a WL slammer

– the first theatrical event of this kind staged in Bolesławiec!

To conclude “Zatargi Halfway There”, we invite you to the performance “Second Hand”, presented by the Telephone Booth of the MDK off theatre under the direction of Aneta Ćwieluch

.

You are warmly invited to the Old Theatre; admission to all events is free!

Please note that, under the applicable COVID-19 regulations, audience capacity is limited to 105 people.

“The Source” opens this year’s edition of the National Youth Zatargi with Theatre, which is taking place in an unusual “halfway there” format because of the pandemic. It was prepared by actors from off theatres who form the “Flying Theatre for Kantor” group, and directed by Prof. Leszek Mądzik, set designer, theatre director, professor of fine arts and creator of the KUL Visual Theatre Scene.

The performance embodies Professor Mądzik’s theatre philosophy: it is theatre without words and without the actor’s traditional role, seeking answers to important questions about the human condition and identity while using surprising spatial forms. The group’s work is rooted in a fascination with Tadeusz Kantor’s work, a desire to present his legacy and to promote great theatrical ideas.

The Flying Theatre consists of artists associated with Poland’s non-institutional theatre movement: Grażyna Tabor, Karina Góra, Monika Adamiec (the project’s originator and coordinator), Barbara Wójcik-Wiktorowicz, Marek Kościółek, Marcin Woszczewski, Anna Jamrozek-Sowa and Beata Klimkowska.

The performance is presented by the Bolesławiec In Gremio Association and the St. Wyspiański Youth Cultural Centre in Bolesławiec. Admission is free.
