Readers asked us what costs are associated with religious education in Bolesławiec schools and whether Mayor Piotr Roman had submitted a request to the bishop to reduce the number of religious education classes from two to one per week. We asked the city spokesperson, Agnieszka Gergont, about this.
As we learned, in preschools and primary schools alone, this amount is nearly PLN 920,000 per year.
– The educational institutions of the Municipality of Bolesławiec spend PLN 919,744 annually on conducting religious education classes (in schools and preschools). The mayor did not submit a request to the bishop regarding the reduction of religious education hours in schools. Such a request may be submitted, in particularly justified cases, only by the head of a school or preschool – informs Agnieszka Gergont.
During the period when schools were closed because of the coronavirus, catechists continued to receive their salaries normally, just like other teachers.
– These are teachers who also advance professionally. They receive remuneration according to their classification and professional advancement level – explains Beata Sulska, head of the Social Affairs Department at the Bolesławiec City Hall.
