The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 11. In the evening, Bolesławiec police were notified about a vehicle fire. The car was parked on one of the streets in the city. It turned out that the 43-year-old doused a Citroen with flammable liquid and then set it on fire.
Two Bolesławiec residents contributed to apprehending the arsonist and also extinguished the fire. Thanks to the citizens' immediate reaction and courageous conduct, the car did not burn down completely.
The arsonist was intoxicated. After spending the night in police custody, he was questioned and charged with property damage. The losses he caused amount to several thousand zlotys.
Under the Criminal Code, he now faces up to five years in prison.
