The incident occurred on August 22, at around 11 p.m., in Jelenia Góra. Officers from the Prevention Department received a report about a Toyota that had been set on fire.
When the officers arrived at the scene, firefighters had already extinguished the vehicle. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The police obtained key information from the woman who reported the incident. According to her account, she saw a man approaching the car belonging to her partner. The man allegedly placed something under the vehicle, and shortly afterward the car went up in flames.
The woman recognized the suspect—it was her 41-year-old neighbor, who had previously threatened to set the car on fire.
The officers immediately began searching for the man. The 41-year-old was arrested.
The man was charged with criminal threats and property damage. On August 23, he was brought before the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra. Police supervision was imposed on him, along with a ban on approaching or contacting the injured parties.
For the alleged offenses, the 41-year-old could face up to five years in prison.
Police remind the public not to disregard threats involving arson, property damage or harming someone. In the event of a real threat, the Police should be notified as soon as possible.
