The incident occurred during the night of July 22–23, shortly after midnight. Volunteer firefighters from Trzebień (Bolesławiec municipality):
Our GBA 2.5/16 unit was dispatched to kilometer 73.8 of the A18 motorway toward Wrocław to deal with a fire involving a truck trailer that might have been carrying unknown chemical substances.
At the scene, it turned out that the trailer and its cargo were already almost completely engulfed in flames, while the cargo itself consisted of components used to produce plastics.
The uniformed officers add:
Our actions involved securing the scene and applying one foam stream to the burning trailer. Fortunately, before our arrival, the truck driver had managed to detach the trailer and drive the tractor unit to a safe distance, which certainly limited the extent of the fire damage.
In addition to the firefighters from Trzebień, firefighters from JRG Bolesławiec and police patrols also took part in the operation.
