The incident occurred on Monday, 20 July. “While on duty on the A4, officers from the Border Guard Post in Legnica selected for inspection a lorry with Lithuanian registration plates travelling from Germany. After the vehicle was stopped at an exit from the motorway, the driver suddenly jumped out of the cab and began to flee,” reports Maj. Joanna Konieczniak, spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit. “The officers pursued him, warning shots were fired, and the remaining Border Guard patrols in the vicinity were called.”Joanna Konieczniak

The driver tried to hide in tall grain. He was unsuccessful. He was arrested.

It turned out that the lorry was being driven by a 33-year-old Lithuanian citizen. The spokesperson said:

The reason for his escape was the stolen Mercedes in which he had travelled from Germany to Poland. Another reason was the passenger car he was transporting, also stolen, a Mazda.

The car was hidden in the lorry’s cargo area. Both vehicles had been reported stolen two days earlier.

The lorry was worth PLN 90,000, while the passenger car was estimated at PLN 100,000. Police officers from Złotoryja will conduct further activities in the case.
