The coronavirus pandemic means that many of us will not go abroad for our holidays this year. The reasons include the pandemic and concerns about long-distance travel. A campaign promoting holidays and short breaks in our region has begun in Lower Silesia and five neighboring provinces.

– Tourism is one of the industries that has felt the negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic most severely. It is worth noting that it is also an industry that has significantly influenced the functioning of Lower Silesia for years, creating employment and contributing to regional development. That is precisely why supporting tourism in Lower Silesia is so important – says Marshal Cezary Przybylski, Bezpartyjni Samorządowcy.

Tourism-industry revenues in Poland have fallen dramatically in recent months. According to research by the Statistical Office, 86,400 tourists used tourist accommodation establishments in April, receiving 326,200 overnight stays. Compared with April of the previous year, this was 96.5% and 94.5% lower, respectively! A decline in the number of tourists was also recorded in May. According to estimates, the number of people using accommodation was approximately 88.1% lower than in the same month of the previous year.

As early as May, we knew that:

  • 87% of Poles had decided to spend their holidays in Poland;
  • 59% of those planning a trip wanted to spend their holiday in a region other than where they live;
  • 69% would appreciate places where social distancing is possible.

The tourism industry needs support today, and everyone can contribute. Hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, museums, local attractions—to support the region, you simply need to… discover it.

– Through the campaign, we are promoting our region, which has a great deal to offer. From the mountains to the Milicz Ponds and all kinds of historic monuments. In this way, we want to encourage people to explore Lower Silesia, and the presence of tourists is the best support for the tourism industry – says Paweł Wybierała, Member of the Board of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Bezpartyjni Samorządowcy.

Lubusz, Łódź, Greater Poland, Silesian, Opole and, finally, Lower Silesia—the invitation to visit and discover the most beautiful places in our region extends to all these areas. It is worth leaving the city to see more, because Lower Silesia is the province with the largest number of historic monuments in Poland and nature offering unforgettable views. Billboards in Lower Silesia and neighboring provinces encourage people to delve into history and showcase diverse destinations, reaching people with different interests.
