One of the items on the agenda of Thursday’s session of the Bolesławiec County Council was a vote on a draft resolution concerning a vote of confidence in the Bolesławiec County Executive Board.

Before that happened, opposition councillors took the floor. Jan Russ, head of the Wolny Bolesławiec councillors’ club, stated, among other things, that the report on the state of the County in 2019 lacked information related to the suspension of a major investment at the county hospital—the construction of an operating block.

Karol Stasik, chairman of Platforma Samorządowa, stressed that his club viewed the local government’s efforts to combat the coronavirus very positively, but that the report itself concerned the previous year. He added that the hospital, “despite assurances that it would be better than under Zdaniuk,” is now more heavily indebted. He noted that he knew this was because of the MRI scanner, but that “the fact remains.”

Councillor K. Stasik added that he had reservations about Kamil Barczyk, director of the county hospital in Bolesławiec, who, in his opinion, “gives ambiguous answers” to questions.

The former county head stated that he knew councillors were assessing the County Executive Board today, not the hospital management, but that the Board seemed to allow the director to answer councillors in that way. “Are we talking to a competent person, or to someone who wants to lead us up the garden path?” asked the head of PS.

Councillor Jacek Łuczkowski of Wolny Bolesławiec said that, having watched last year’s debate, he had concluded that asking questions today made no sense. He thanked officials and employees of County institutions and appealed for key official positions not to be politicised, so that they would be held by objective people.

Independent councillor Tomasz Matyjewicz noted that the report lacked crème de la crème, namely a comparative scale showing how Bolesławiec County performs against other counties. He also said that events from recent months had influenced his decision on how to vote.

Then Tomasz Gabrysiak, the Bolesławiec county head, took the floor and addressed all the councillors’ comments.

Jan Russ later said that opposition councillors did not want to damage the Board’s image, but wanted reliable answers to their questions.

The Council adopted the aforementioned resolution by 12 votes in favour. Eight councillors voted against it.
