Our Reader asked us to publicize the matter. In an email to the editorial office, she wrote: “Could you address the issue of lighting at 14 A and B Zygmunta Augusta Street? [...] Young people returning from Starzyńskiego take advantage of the darkness there—they knock over bins, make noise, etc. It is also an inconvenience for us, because it is simply dangerous here. The city center, and darkness all around... Something is wrong! Mr. Molenda, the property manager, claims that he submitted an application on this matter, but that was five years ago. How long do we have to wait?!”

„Młodzież wracająca ze Starzyńskiego korzysta z tego, że jest tam ciemno – przewraca kosze, hałasuje itp. To jest też utrudnienie dla nas, bo jest tu niebezpiecznie” pisze Czytelniczka„Młodzież wracająca ze Starzyńskiego korzysta z tego, że jest tam ciemno – przewraca kosze, hałasuje itp. “We know about the problem,” admits Jarosław Molenda, director of the Jan Molenda Property Management office. “But we are unable to do anything about it. The owner of the area by Zygmunta Augusta is the Municipality of Bolesławiec. It is responsible for this area behind the buildings.”

According to Jarosław Molenda, the office has intervened on this matter many times. Janusz Kozioł of Ziemia Bolesławiecka appealed for the modernization of the area behind the buildings during a City Council session. “Vice-President Wiesław Ogrodnik supported me at the time,” the councillor points out. “We are currently working on next year’s budget. It is difficult to say whether this investment will be included.”

This area is not a priority

Residents will have to be patient. Jarosław Karbowski, head of the Municipal Housing Management Office, explains that there will be no money for renovating the areas behind Zygmunta Augusta and Murarska streets either this year or next year. “At present, we have commissioned modernization designs for five other places of this kind,” says the MZGM director.

Karbowski emphasizes that Bolesławiec has several dozen areas behind buildings requiring renovation. The order in which they will be modernized was determined, among other things, by City Council members. Those in the worst condition will be renovated first.

Next year, the areas behind Podgórna-Górników-Tyrankiewiczów, Ślusarska-Wojska Polskiego and Spokojna streets, as well as Polna Street and Zamkowy Square, are scheduled for renovation.
