– I was aware that the University of Economics would arrive strengthened by first-league players Tomasz Fortunka and Kamil Duniec, but at the same time I believed we would manage – comments on the match Łukasz Jaźwiec, TOP’s playing coach. – There was a fantastic atmosphere in the hall. There were relatively many supporters for a first match, and they cheered our players on very enthusiastically. The match began very well. Later, things got worse.
In the opening matches, Grzegorz Rogóż won confidently (defeating Przemysław Kościelniak 3–0), while Tomasz Durajczyk (3–1) defeated one of Poland’s best cadets, Michał Bańkosz. When Łukasz Jaźwiec defeated Fortunka (3–1), it seemed that TOP’s victory was within reach. Unfortunately, a series of defeats for the Bolesławiec players followed, and after the doubles matches the score was tied at 3–3.
In the next round of singles, Rogóż lost to Fortunka, while Tomasz Durajczyk lost to Duniec. Jaźwiec, who was in excellent form that day, restored hopes of a draw by defeating Kościelniak. Adrian Korzybski’s defeat by Bańkosz (2–3) meant that the Wrocław team could celebrate victory.
Next week, TOP will play an away match against Odra Księginice. This could also be a difficult and surprising match. – Despite the defeat, our goals for this season remain unchanged – Jaźwiec said after the match. – We are fighting for at least a place in the top four of the competition. A defeat motivates us. The entire team thanks the supporters for their wonderful support and invites them in two weeks to the match against LZS Raszówka.
TOP Bolesławiec–KU AE Wrocław 4–6
