Patients are seen under an NFZ contract up to the age of 21 (this applies to adolescents in education). The centre is staffed by professional, certified psychotherapists. The centre provides: comprehensive psychological diagnosis, psychological consultations, individual, group and family psychotherapy, as well as psychological and community support. Registration: +48 571 306 436.

Kamila Weigt a certified psychotherapist, trainee supervisor and member of the Polish Psychiatric Association, as well as head of the Mental Health Centre for Children and Adolescents in Bolesławiec, talks about the new form of assistance.

“Due to the difficult situation in child and adolescent psychiatry, an assistance programme was created, and Mental Health Centres for Children and Adolescents were organised in Poland as part of the NFZ,” says Kamila Weigt. “As part of the Centre, the Community Psychological Care and Psychotherapy Centre for Children and Adolescents has operated at the Provincial Hospital since 1 April. In accordance with the law, there are no queues or waiting times for an appointment with a specialist at the Centre. Every child and adolescent up to the age of 21 who is in education and has a problem will be seen within seven days. We are required to look into the problem, diagnose and analyse it, and then establish a therapy plan within seven days,” the psychologist adds.

The centre also enables broader contact with the environment in which the child lives. With the parents’ consent, specialists contact the school, homeroom teacher and school counsellor. If the child uses the services of a Psychological and Pedagogical Counselling Centre, they also contact the centre and MOPS.

“This is a very good idea for helping children and adolescents—very comprehensive and professional,” says Kamila Weigt. “The Centre exists so that every child who develops a problem can come in and receive help. Four psychotherapists, two psychologists and a community therapist work at the Centre. From the very beginning, the project has been piloted by the Ministry of Health. The Centre employs people who have at least two years of therapeutic work experience with children and adolescents,” Kamila Weigt explains.

Professional staff and no restrictions under the NFZ are among the advantages of this place. Since 1 June, patients have been seen on site at the Centre; during the isolation period, sessions were held online.
