– After her maternity benefit ends, a mother running a business must register for insurance on account of her non-agricultural business activity, including voluntary sickness insurance, if she wants to maintain continuous sickness insurance coverage and be entitled to sickness benefits – reminds Iwona Kowalska-Matis, ZUS regional press spokesperson in Lower Silesia.
– Women who run businesses and are entitled to maternity benefits cease to be subject to compulsory social insurance on account of running a business and become covered on account of receiving maternity benefits. This means that while receiving maternity benefits, women running businesses pay only the health insurance contribution, while the pension and disability contributions are paid from the state budget – explains I. Kowalska-Matis.
Attention, exception:
If a woman receives a maternity benefit that does not exceed the amount of the parental benefit per month – currently PLN 1,000 – she does not pay health insurance contributions from her business, but she is not exempt from submitting a settlement declaration to ZUS.
ZUS: – Since during this period an entrepreneurial mother is not required to pay social insurance contributions for herself on account of running a business, she must deregister from compulsory social insurance and health insurance using form ZUS ZWUA and register only for compulsory health insurance using form ZZA. However, she must remember that after her maternity benefit has been exhausted, she must register again for insurance on account of her business activity. To do so, she should deregister from health insurance using form ZUS ZWUA and register for compulsory social insurance and health insurance as a person running a business, using form ZUS ZUA. The registration must be submitted within 7 days of the social insurance obligation arising.
IMPORTANT
If, after receiving the maternity benefit ends, an entrepreneurial mother wants to maintain continuous sickness insurance coverage, she must declare on the registration for social and health insurance (ZUS ZUA) that she is joining voluntary sickness insurance. If she does so within 7 days, she will be covered by voluntary sickness insurance on account of running a business from the date specified in the registration.
