On Tuesday, 25 August, a conference was held at the Wedding Palace with the participation of, among others, Andrzej Kosendiak, general director of the International Wratislavia Cantans Festival. “For several years, we have been inviting outstanding artists to Bolesławiec,” Kosendiak said. “And, in my opinion, Il Giardino Armonico is the finest Italian ensemble performing 17th- and 18th-century music.”
The ensemble plays period instruments. “The Italians’ performances are characterized by extraordinary expressiveness, which is precisely how they conquered the world. I think the vitality of this music will appeal to the residents of Bolesławiec,” the director encouraged.
The group will perform under the baton of Giovanni Antonini, an outstanding Italian conductor and co-founder of Il Giardino Armonico. Residents of Bolesławiec will hear works by Claudio Monteverdi, Antonio Vivaldi and Giovanni Battista Ferrandini, among others.
There will also be a local touch. The program for the “Il pianto di Maria” (“Mary’s Lament”) concert will include “Prelude in E-flat major” by Sigmund Leopold Weiss, one of the finest lutenists of his era, who was associated with Wrocław for many years.
The concert by Giovanni Antonini and the Il Giardino Armonico ensemble will take place on Saturday, 19 September, at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Castle Square). It begins at 7:00 p.m.. Admission is free.
“We Poles somehow cannot free ourselves from the mistaken belief that if something is free, it is not necessarily good,” says county head Cezary Przybylski. “That is why it is worth mentioning that the same concert, for which residents of Bolesławiec have free admission, costs as much as 200 złoty in Wrocław! Vivaldi’s works need no additional advertising. You simply have to be there!” he added
