– The preliminary opinion provided by the experts indicates that the boy most likely died as a result of drowning. No injuries were found that could indicate another cause of death or the involvement of third parties – says prosecutor Tomasz Czułowski, spokesperson for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra. He adds:

The final opinion will be issued by the experts after further examinations have been carried out. The investigation into the case is being conducted by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec.

What have investigators established?

Prosecutor’s Office:

It was established that on 27 April 2020, Kacper B. was in the care of 34-year-old Rafał B. in an allotment garden in the town of Nowogrodziec. At one point, the man noticed that he did not know where his son was. He attempted to find the boy. The Police and other services were then notified that the child was missing.

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec and the local County Police Headquarters gathered extensive evidence indicating that the boy had most likely fallen into the river flowing near the allotment gardens.

The Police, together with other services, launched a large-scale search operation. On 9 May 2020, the boy’s body was found. The body was in the Kwisa River, approximately 1.5 km from the place where the child went missing.

Investigators add:

On 29 April 2020, the boy’s father was charged with an offence under Article 160 § 2 of the Criminal Code, namely exposing his son to the direct danger of loss of life or serious harm to the child’s health. The offence is punishable by up to 5 years’ imprisonment.

After questioning, he was placed in a penitentiary institution, where he was to serve a prison sentence imposed for another offence he had committed in the past.
