Meanwhile, Oxpress High School, responding to the concerns of students and their parents, is proposing a new, innovative recruitment procedure. Where did the idea come from and what does it actually involve?
– At every Oxpress institution, the student has always been and remains our top priority. That is why we want young people to have the opportunity to present themselves in the best possible light and tell us about their passions, dreams, but also their fears and concerns. We are here to help them enter adulthood with confidence in their own worth and with their wings spread—not carrying the burden of bad experiences from previous years. The atmosphere at school is definitely our strength – says Monika Pluszczewicz, the school principal.
– We have a lot to offer our students: above all, a very high standard of foreign-language education: English (five lessons per week), Spanish (classes with a native speaker) and German. We also place considerable emphasis on teaching mathematics. Our students are not limited to choosing tracks that impose specific extended-level subjects on them. At Oxpress, they can independently choose extended-level subjects according to their interests. For example, they can choose extended-level chemistry, history, biology, Polish and geography, even though these subjects have little in common. In addition, the extended-level subjects chosen at the beginning can be changed without having to move to another class. Everyone studies English at extended level. No other high school offers this – emphasizes Dariusz Tyrakowski, founder of Oxpress and creator of this system.
– In addition, Oxpress provides access to a modern sports and recreation facility: a full-size professional gym equipped with every possible piece of equipment and two smaller rooms used for training with a personal trainer. I would also add that our students can use psychological counseling freely and free of charge. Small classes make it easier for qualified educators to notice students’ problems immediately and resolve them discreetly – said the school principal.
As we learned from the students, during breaks, after classes or at weekends, high school students can socialize in the ChillOutRoom, where they have access to a kitchen, reading room and desks, a pool table, a 70-inch television, sofas and the Internet. On the first floor, table-tennis tables are also available to them.
– Oxpress ensures complete safety, as the entire building, both inside and outside, is monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Another interesting idea is allowing students who wish to do so to arrange individual classrooms themselves; they can create graffiti on the walls, paint them and rearrange the furniture – said the principal.
– We are simply looking for exceptional young people; people with passion and hobbies, not necessarily with a plan for their entire future. Our primary mission is to teach them and show them how the world works, how to use their talents and skills in it, and how to cope. We give young people a key tool in today’s world: knowledge of foreign languages. I am personally convinced that anyone who is willing to learn and open their mind, and dares to set out with us on this difficult journey, will win at life and achieve success at least commensurate with their abilities. In fact, we have been helping with this since 1994 – adds Dariusz Tyrakowski.
