Councillor Bogusław Nowak, together with a dozen or so Clay Figures, will protest on Friday at 12:00 at the roundabout on Cieszkowskiego Street (the roundabout with ZC Bolesławiec cups). Nowak wants to draw the attention of the authorities and the media to the fact that Bolesławiec has neither a properly signposted exit from the new section of the motorway nor an entrance to the A4 from the city.

The councillor has repeatedly submitted interpellations on this matter during City Council sessions, receiving a similar response each time: the signposting of national roads does not fall within the competence of the city authorities. “After long efforts and several interpellations, the authorities of Bolesławiec have taken no steps to properly signpost the entrance to the city from the new section of the motorway,” says Councillor Bogusław Nowak. “Most people who do not know the region drive all the way to the German border. Not everyone wants to turn back. This is an economic blow to the city.”

Nowak is prepared to purchase such a sign himself and install it on the motorway. He believes that such a simple matter as signposting the exit has become a major problem because of bureaucratic procedures and the sluggishness of the city authorities.

As a reminder, the current signs at the exit point towards two major cities: Jelenia Góra and Zielona Góra. Although information about the Bolesławiec interchange is located before this exit, there is no sign bearing the name of our city at the exit itself. “We will become a ghost city,” Nowak worries. “A vanishing point on the map of Poland. Word of mouth will not help tourists find their way to Bolesławiec. We need signs and a signboard,” he explains.

“The protest, as its organiser assures us, will be peaceful and will not inconvenience residents. The Clay Figures only want to draw attention to the problem and ask the city authorities for help in signposting the city that Gliniada promotes around the world,” the councillor adds.
