A fire broke out in the building on Sunday (19 April). The family had already finished dinner and was preparing for bed when choking smoke and flames began to appear inside the rooms.

The course of the fire and the dramatic moments during the effort to save the 10-year-old boy are described on lwowecki.info:

It was hell. Within moments, the fire had engulfed the entire apartment. Everyone managed to escape alive, but 10-year-old Karol, who is autistic, became frightened when the fire broke out and hid. He hid from his family members, who were searching for him, but he could not hide from the flames. They burned his skin. His older brothers came to the boy’s aid, and today they make no attempt to hide their emotions when describing the suffering the 10-year-old endured. Mr Sylwester recalls that when he saw his mother run outside shouting that Karol was missing, he and another brother entered the burning house. Wrapped in a towel, the man crawled around, looking for his little brother. At one point, the boy’s legs emerged from the smoke; he was screaming in pain. “When I grabbed him by the legs, his skin was coming off,” says Mr Sylwester, who grabbed his brother by his shorts and pulled him behind him onto the porch, then carried him outside. The boy was conscious, but apparently unaware of what had happened. “He was sitting there in such shock, saying nothing, just pulling the skin off himself,” recalls Mr Sylwester, who also says that the firefighters who arrived were the first to help the boy, treat his injuries and hand him over to the emergency medical service.

The fire took away everything they had built up over their lives and left them without a roof over their heads. Now they want to rebuild everything somehow and return to normal life, but this is impossible without help from other people. The fire victims are asking for any assistance during this difficult time.
