Only here can you see what the city looked like from above during the Ceramic Festival. The video was filmed by Krzysztof Gwizdała thanks to Heli-Coramex.
The 15th Ceramic Festival has come to an end. This huge undertaking was carried out mainly thanks to the employees of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre. We would like to congratulate them here on their stamina, nerves of steel and ability to persevere under stress. They were helpful and cheerful, and received excellent reviews from the guests invited to the festival: visual artists, ceramic artists, and all the groups and ensembles.
This year's Ceramic Festival featured many excellent events, good concerts and great ideas. Bolesławiec was alive from Wednesday to Sunday. And we consider that the greatest success.
The flea market on Prusa Street created a unique atmosphere for the festival. It would be worthwhile to organize uniform stalls for the exhibitors in order to enhance their status. This would eliminate the ubiquitous cardboard boxes on which they displayed their items.
The ceramic town on the Market Square was also a very well-executed idea. Praise is due to the three exhibitors who arranged their stalls so well that even at night, when they were closed, they created an attractive corner where tourists were happy to take photographs. These were the stalls of Manufaktura, Ceramika WR and Ceramika Tyrcz. Such an overall approach to the aesthetics of the square and one's own stall deserves emphasis, as it is still rare.
During the first days of the festival, Ceramika Artystyczna Wiza covered its pyramid, on which very beautiful vessels were displayed, with unattractive plastic sheeting for the night. Zakłady Ceramiczne „Bolesławiec” treated their stall similarly: they prioritized safety over aesthetics and additionally sealed their exhibition tents with plastic sheeting.
The children's ceramic town broke popularity records. The children arranged to meet their favourite artists to work on the wheel, mould clay and paint it. As one of the ceramic artists working in the town, Marta Szczygłowska, told us, first the eight-year-olds came, then the six-year-olds, until a three-year-old appeared, curious about everything and possessing great manual skills. Marta Szczygłowska began to admire the Bolesławiec children who were in love with clay.
The four ceramic kilns built on the slope by the church in the Market Square attracted enormous interest. Intrigued by the artists' activities, people approached them and asked about the details. Anna Błachnia, the organizer of this presentation, assures us that there will be seven kilns next year. She also promised to ensure that the slope acquired a special character and that the ceramic artists had a designated area for technical facilities. The presentation of such diverse ceramic firing methods is a rarity and something that distinguishes our festival from many others.
Gliniada, a parade born of love for clay, is gaining momentum and is increasingly admired and loved by the residents of Bolesławiec. As we wrote, this year it can confidently be called royal.
The ceramic table and the Guinness World Record attempt were also spectacular events. Spectators commented on the idea very positively. People said that at last it was possible to see every type of ceramics produced in Bolesławiec. They admired the patterns and shapes and congratulated the organizers on the idea.
