The option to pay by card or phone on trains is another convenience introduced for passengers by Koleje Dolnośląskie, as well as an additional safety measure in response to the coronavirus threat. Staff equipped with terminals can be found on all vehicles operated by the Lower Silesian carrier.
The company has obtained 240 mobile payment terminals for its conductor crews. As a result, each conductor serving passengers will have their own terminal. The devices have been tested on the Lower Silesian operator’s trains since the beginning of February. Following a three-month testing phase, the final decision was supposed to be made on adding them to the equipment used by conductor crews.
“The safety of our employees and passengers is our responsibility. That is why we decided to accelerate the implementation of cashless payments accepted by our train managers and conductors,” said Bartłomiej Rodak, press spokesperson for Koleje Dolnośląskie. “At the same time, we appeal to passengers to use the option of paying for tickets by card or phone as often as possible. It is important to us that we mutually minimize the risk of coronavirus infection.
With safety in mind
The company decided to expand the available payment options with the safety of passengers and employees in mind. Koleje Dolnośląskie passengers had already had several options for purchasing tickets without cash. The Lower Silesian operator’s full offer is available through the eKD online sales system, the SkyCash mobile app and the KOLEO platform. Now passengers will also be able to purchase a ticket without cash on every route and on every train.
