A coroner is a doctor who certifies a death. Starting Friday, the coroner will work throughout Bolesławiec County. This is all connected with the coronavirus epidemic.

“The current problem is that primary healthcare clinics do not want to send their doctors to certify deaths because, firstly, they are overworked, and secondly, there is a risk that the deceased person may in fact be infected with the coronavirus. Using this method, we could get rid of all our doctors within three days because they would all be quarantined. On the other hand, burdening the emergency medical service with certifying deaths now also makes no sense, because they have other things to do. I found a doctor whom we will dress in a special suit and give a mask. For now, the doctor will be on duty for a month,” says Bolesławiec County governor Tomasz Gabrysiak. The regulations governing the county governor’s responsibility for this task date back to 1961.

There is also a problem with the burials of people who have died from coronavirus.

“The regulations are complicated. The body must be covered with disinfectant, the coffin must have a window allowing the remains to be identified, and the entire coffin must additionally be placed in a plastic bag,” adds Bolesławiec County governor Tomasz Gabrysiak.
