Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki:
According to the World Health Organization, the coronavirus may become a global pandemic, so we must act quickly.
It is clear that Poland is pursuing a very good strategy. We have introduced sanitary controls at the borders. A storm cannot be predicted, but it is possible to protect oneself against it. Determined action is needed.
He added that all educational institutions would be completely closed from Monday. Primary schools and kindergartens will be open on Thursday and Friday only for people who will have no way to arrange childcare at such short notice.
M. Morawiecki:
Today, the most important word in Poland must be “responsibility”.
Dariusz Piontkowski, Minister of Education:
From tomorrow, we are suspending educational and upbringing activities.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Higher Education Jarosław Gowin said that classes at universities would be suspended from 12 to 25 March. And he stressed:
This does not mean closing the universities.
Museums, cultural institutions and cinemas will be closed from tomorrow. But, as Prof. Piotr Gliński, head of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, explained, this will apply only to areas involving gatherings of people.
