On 9 March, at the border with Germany in Świecko, Olszyna and Jędrzychowice, medical and phytosanitary services, officers of the Border Guard, Police, State Fire Service, National Revenue Administration and Road Transport Inspection began checking people entering Poland.

“As part of the operation, locations were designated where sanitary checkpoints were set up. Coaches and minibuses carrying people returning from outside Poland are selected for inspection. First, a sanitary check is conducted by medical personnel. It involves measuring body temperature. After establishing that there are no people with an elevated temperature in the vehicle, Border Guard/Police/NRA/RTI officers ask travellers to complete location cards and verify their personal details against their identity documents. The completed location cards are then placed in a signed envelope, in accordance with the recommendations of the GIS, and delivered to the phytosanitary services,” says Border Guard Major Joanna Konieczniak, press spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit.

She adds:

These measures were introduced to effectively stop the spread of the coronavirus; therefore, we ask all travellers and drivers for understanding and patience.

“Everything has been prepared very efficiently,” assured Jarosław Kresa on 9 March, the Lower Silesian deputy voivode.
