“For every child, childhood” was the slogan under which celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, organized by UNICEF Poland (a humanitarian and development organization working for children), took place at Primary School No. 3 on November 20, 2019. The coordinator of the International Day of Children's Rights celebrations was the supervisor of the Student Council, Adrian Banyś.
This special day was an excellent opportunity to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention, the most important document setting out the rights of the youngest, and to undertake various initiatives and activities related not only to children's rights, but also to their needs and problems. The Student Council, together with supervisors Adrian Banyś and Agnieszka Markowicz, prepared a special meeting with the classes for the occasion, during which students were introduced to the children's rights described in the individual Articles of the Convention. Joint activities of classes I–VIII aimed to familiarize students with their rights.
The UNICEF International Day of Children's Rights project aimed to: organize celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child at the school on November 20; introduce students to the subject of children's rights; raise awareness of the importance of the rights of the youngest and their consequences in everyday life; join the international celebration of Children's Rights Day; and show solidarity with the most needy children worldwide.
The project was carried out by a coordinator whose involvement contributed to increasing students' awareness of children's rights. Their main tasks included maintaining contact with UNICEF Poland; conducting educational classes based on scenarios prepared by the organization or on their own materials; organizing a school event on November 20, the International Day of Children's Rights; and submitting a final report on the activities carried out as part of the campaign.
The coordinator of the International Day of Children's Rights celebrations, Adrian Banyś, extends heartfelt thanks to the entire school community for its involvement in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child organized by UNICEF. November 20 is a special date that should turn our thoughts toward children and their rights.
