A major problem in our urban community is the very limited range of ways to popularize mathematics among students of Bolesławiec schools. Hence the idea to carry out a project whose most important participants are the students themselves. Thanks to it, they were able to present their mathematical interests and abilities and, through competition and rivalry, motivate one another to continue working.

The first stage of the competition, the school stage, took place in autumn 2020. Sixty-six students from Bolesławiec schools took part: Primary School No. 1 (20 students), Primary School No. 2 (15 students), Primary School No. 3 (11 students), Primary School No. 4 (8 students), and Primary School No. 5 (12 students). Based on the results of the test solved by the students, 10 students from grades 7–8 were selected—two students from each school—who achieved the highest scores. These students qualified for the second stage.

The second and third stages of the competition took place at Primary School No. 3 without an audience due to the pandemic. In accordance with the competition rules, participants received three chances, marked by yellow strips at the desks. A participant had 5 seconds to provide an answer. An incorrect answer or no answer resulted in the loss of a chance. Losing the third chance ended that student’s game.
Three students qualified for the third stage. The winners of the first edition of the inter-school mathematics competition were:

  • 1st place: Michał Jednoróg from Primary School No. 5
  • 2nd place: Miłosz Wojtowicz from Primary School No. 3
  • 3rd place: Paweł Surus from Primary School No. 5

All participants in the second stage, as well as the female students involved in conducting the competition, received certificates and consolation prizes. The competition winners received certificates, trophies, and interesting material prizes. We congratulate the winners and all competition participants and wish them success in their subsequent mathematical challenges.
