This year, military qualification will take place from March 2 to 19 at the Regional Hospital for the Nervously and Mentally Ill (al. Tysiąclecia) in Bolesławiec. People born in 2001 must report for it. The starosta appoints a commission consisting of a chairperson—a surgeon—along with a secretary and medical support staff (a female or male nurse).

People subject to qualification undergo an examination, receive a military record book and a category corresponding to their state of health. The military record book is another document confirming a person’s identity. It is required when applying for civilian jobs. It confirms that the person’s status regarding military service has been regulated.

Each person receives a personal summons to appear, issued by the village head, mayor or city president. This year, summonses have already been delivered to 529 people.
Women born between 1996 and 2001 are also required to complete military qualification. Women are summoned by the Wojskowa Komenda Uzupełnień. This applies to women studying subjects useful in active service—medical, veterinary and psychological fields—as well as graduates of these fields.

If justified circumstances arise and people are unable to appear on the appointed date, they will be summoned the following year. In cases of persistent avoidance of qualification, the police may bring the person in. It is also important to remember that a fine may be imposed.

Military qualification is a government task entrusted to the starosta for implementation.
