Joining the Lower Silesian Network of Health-Promoting Schools was, on the one hand, a continuation of activities carried out at the school and, on the other, an opportunity to undertake new initiatives. To receive the certificate, the school had to carry out a series of activities promoting a healthy lifestyle and prove that this concerned the health of the entire school community in the broadest sense of the word.

– We have carried out many activities related to caring for the environment, preventing addictions and other threats, promoting physical activity, a healthy lifestyle and healthy nutrition, as well as ensuring safety – says the activity coordinator Beata Czeladka. – We implemented the program for three years. Each year, the health-promotion team developed tasks based directly on previously conducted research. We took part in the nationwide “Breakfast Gives You Strength” program, for which we received certificates of participation every year.

Healthy nutrition

We participated in the “Juices and Mousses – Vitamins in Smart Form” program. For several years, first-grade classes took part in the “Safe Puchatek Academy” program, and our school’s students implement the “I Learn to Live Safely” program. The team has many successes to its credit: second place in the semifinals and second place in the finals of the Lower Silesian 14th Competition – the teacher adds.

The school holds many meetings related to student safety: meetings with police officers, municipal guards and employees of the Mrówka store. Many prevention programs have been implemented. At school, we celebrate Carrot Day, International Apple Day, World Water Day and International Juice Day.

Several classes at Primary School No. 2 completed the “I Eat Healthily, I Know More” program. The classes’ successes in the 2016/2017 school year included fifth and 29th place in the second-grade category. Among other things, the program involved taking part in numerous culinary workshops at the Village of Flavors in Lipiany. Thanks to cooperation with the General and Vocational Secondary School in Bolesławiec on Komuny Paryskiej Street, students have the opportunity to cook and bake themselves, for example when making Christmas gingerbread. School festivals are an excellent opportunity to promote health.

We care about students’ mental health

An interesting initiative is caring for students’ mental health through various specialist activities in a dedicated sensory-integration room and a “world-experience” room.

– The innovative therapy method used in the world-experience room is the Snoezelen method – Beata Czeladka explains. – It is a method in which a state of inactivity, simply being and sensing, is important. With this method, participants can focus on just one sense of their choice without having to concentrate on the others – the teacher explains.

Provincial Certificate of a Health-Promoting School

On 28 November 2019, at the Lower Silesian Teacher Training Centre in Wrocław, certificates were formally presented to schools during the “Health Education and Health Promotion in a Health-Promoting School” conference. Primary School No. 2 was one of 11 institutions attending the ceremony. The certificate was accepted on behalf of the school by its principal, Irena Sikora-Kołodyńska.

It was an opportunity for the students to perform. Third-grade class III c students: Hanna Małowiecka, Emilia Wąsik, Paulina Rapa, Oliwia Żołańska, Adrian Małoszyc and Maksymilian Gresio performed a short but highly meaningful presentation entitled “Vitamins,” which concluded with the presentation of symbolic portions of vitamins to the audience. The artistic performance was announced by third-grade class III b student Laura Janeczko.

– I would like to express my sincere thanks to our school’s management, teaching staff, students, parents, the Parents’ Council and non-teaching staff for their tremendous support for the health-promotion activities carried out at our school – says the activity coordinator. – We sincerely thank the Bolesławiec Motor Transport Company, Ltd. for providing transportation for the students and guardians to collect the certificate. Things can always be improved. We will continue to spread the idea and values of health education at our school as part of the “Health-Promoting School” project – Beata Czeladka pledges.
