Firefighters from the Bolesławiec County Headquarters of the State Fire Service have been organizing the St. Nicholas Indoor Football Tournament for Fire Services every December for 21 years. This year’s tournament—with nine firefighters’ teams taking part—was held in the sports hall of Primary School No. 1 in Bolesławiec.
The County Commander of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec, Brigadier Andrzej Śliwowski, invited the participants to compete in a sporting contest. Beforehand, the groups were drawn and a brief technical briefing was held, during which particular attention was paid to ensuring that sporting ambition would not cause injuries.
The commitment of State Fire Service officers during the group matches made it possible to select the best teams, which went on to compete for the podium in the final matches.
Representatives of the Lower Silesian Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service defeated the hosts’ second team 2–1 on penalties in the match for seventh place. The decisive factor in the victory of the Lower Silesian Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service was a penalty save by the County Commander of the State Fire Service in Lwówek Śląski, Brigadier Mariusz Mróz, who supported the Wrocław team as a guest.
Firefighters from the Lwówek Śląski County Headquarters of the State Fire Service defeated the team from the Złotoryja County Headquarters of the State Fire Service 4–2 in the match for fifth place.
The first team of the Bolesławiec County Headquarters of the State Fire Service lost 2–4 to the team of officers from Zgorzelec in the battle for a place on the podium.
After several years’ absence from the tournament organized by the Bolesławiec County Headquarters of the State Fire Service, officers from the Legnica Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service took part again. Returning in fine style, the Legnica team finished first, defeating the Żagań County Headquarters of the State Fire Service 4–2. The event’s hosts:
It is also worth noting that the players from Legnica and Zgorzelec, who stood out in the tournament for their exceptional sporting abilities, form the core of the Lower Silesian provincial team, which finished fourth in the 2019 Polish Firefighters’ Championship.
The tournament participants received certificates and material prizes, including a ball signed by KGHM Zagłębie Lubin players and match jerseys brought by the team from the Lubin County Headquarters of the State Fire Service.
