“Iron Bridge” is a dramatic story about three characters entangled in a love affair. Kacper (Bartłomiej Topa), who works as a mining foreman, is having an affair with the wife of his friend Oskar (Łukasz Simlat), who is also a miner. In order to meet his lover Magda (Julia Kijowska), Kacper sends Oskar to work in remote and dangerous sections of the mine. During their next tryst in the mine, a rockburst occurs, and Oskar becomes trapped in a collapsed passage. The lovers throw themselves into the rescue operation, while also having to deal with guilt and the knowledge that they indirectly contributed to the tragedy of the buried husband and friend.
The titular “iron bridge” is an underground lutniociąg (a system of connected thin-walled metal ventilation pipes), which, in the event of a collapse, is the only means of contact between miners trapped underground and rescuers working on the surface.
“I wanted to tell a story about a crisis in a relationship, about a crisis in the relationship of a couple living in Silesia. A void appears in this couple’s life, and a third person fills it. The film is an attempt to explain what responsibility really is—the responsibility we take for another person when entering into a relationship with them. My film is about such a crisis in a relationship. A relationship connects people permanently, with an iron bridge,” says Monika Jordan-Młodzianowska, the film’s screenwriter and director.

The film will be screened in Bolesławiec in January 2020.
