The campaign Emergency Corridor – think before you act, initiated, among others, by firefighters from Czerna, has been covered repeatedly in our pages. The initiative was also often reported on by Poland’s largest national media outlets.

Information about the change in regulations

Unfortunately, we have also repeatedly reported that there are still many “road sheep” who, through their arrogance, recklessness and often even stupidity, made it difficult for services saving the lives of accident victims to do their work.

This may change, however. The Sejm has amended the Road Traffic Act, introducing the so-called emergency corridor and zipper merging into the regulations. The new regulations are to enter into force 21 days after publication.

Interia.pl:

Under the act, if traffic congestion makes it difficult for emergency vehicles, particularly rescue vehicles, to pass, drivers travelling on a road with two lanes in the same direction will be required to move as close as possible to the left and right edges of the carriageway, respectively.

The portal adds:

On a carriageway with more than two lanes in the same direction, the driver travelling in the far-left lane will be required to clear the way for an emergency vehicle by moving as close as possible to the left edge of the lane, while drivers travelling in the adjacent lanes will be required to clear the way for an emergency vehicle by moving as close as possible to the right edge of their lanes.
