A Reader asked us to publicize the matter. In an email to the editorial office, they wrote: “This view can be seen in the courtyard of Tyrankiewiczów Street. Ever since the sorting containers were brought here, people have been turning the place into a dump.”
“We remove waste from the separate waste collection containers on Tyrankiewiczów Street on an ongoing basis,” says Jarosław Kowalski, director for investment and environmental protection at the Municipal Communal Services Plant. “We also remove the waste lying beside the containers. We should learn cleanliness habits from our western neighbors,” he adds.
Among other things, a television casing and a washbasin were lying beside the containers. Following the intervention of the Bolesławiec Municipal Police, the rubbish disappeared. On June 22, the property manager cleared it away.
Municipal officers often intervene in similar cases. Property owners are obliged to keep their properties clean. If they do not clean up illegally dumped rubbish, they will be fined from PLN 20 to PLN 500. If the fine proves ineffective, the case is referred to court, which may impose a fine of up to PLN 5,000. The same consequences may be faced by the person littering if they are caught in the act.

As it turned out, the rubbish not only failed to disappear, but more was added. Tomorrow, the municipal police will send a notice to the property manager. We will return to the matter as soon as new information emerges.
