We asked Grzegorz Schetyna during his visit to Lower Silesia about responsibility for the foiled terrorist attacks on LGBT people during Pride marches.

Let us recall that in Lublin, the police detained a Polish married couple with explosives, which they had brought to the Pride march. The explosion could have caused fatalities. The couple was remanded in custody by the court for three months. This was more than a week ago. Meanwhile, last Saturday in Wrocław, a man with knives was walking toward the participants of the Pride march. Thanks to the police officers’ swift action, tragedy was avoided.

Few media outlets wrote about either incident, and television almost completely ignored them.

According to Schetyna, Law and Justice alone is to blame.

Krzysztof Gwizdała: “What do you think about the failed attacks at Pride marches?”

Grzegorz Schetyna: “It is the result of aggressive language and a politics of hatred.”

“And don’t you feel at least somewhat responsible that during all the years you were in power...”

“Us?!”

“Yes. For example, you did nothing to promote acceptance of LGBT people in Poland.”

“But you are asking about the politics of hatred, about the incidents in Warsaw (Wrocław—editor’s note) and Lublin.”

“Yes. But it was built on something—for example, on a lack of acceptance...”

“On PiS policy, on a politics of hatred and on a politics of hatred.”

“And you take no responsibility yourselves?”

“It is some people’s failure to understand the consequences of a politics of hatred, as in the case of Paweł Adamowicz. We must remember that.”

Schetyna did not want to accept any responsibility for the situation of LGBT people in Poland or for respect for human rights. The same applies to other issues, including healthcare, education, and growing hatred between people.

We constantly hear that either it is Tusk’s fault or PiS’s fault. No one feels responsible for anything.
