For several decades, young people from Bolesławiec have participated every year in Taizé European Youth Meetings, which are organized in various locations across Europe. The next meeting will take place from December 28, 2019, to January 1, 2020, in Wrocław. The organizers expect approximately 20,000 young Europeans.

What is the Taizé Community?

Taizé is an international ecumenical community that seeks to put unity, peace and love into practice through kindness of heart and the greatest simplicity of life. It is a community founded by Brother Roger and his companions, who decided to live in post-war Europe according to Christian ideals, rising above religious and national divisions.

Since 1978, the brothers of Taizé have organized European Youth Meetings, held every year at the turn of December and January in various locations across Europe. Poland has already hosted such meetings—in Wrocław (1989 and 1995), Warsaw (1999), and Poznań (2009)—and will host one again, as the next meeting will once more take place in Wrocław. Thousands of young Europeans participate in them. Annual trips to these meetings are also organized from our city. The most recent one took place in the capital of Spain—Madrid. Young people who discover the spirituality of Taizé come together to pray, seeking to deepen such issues as understanding between nations, peace, understanding of faith and social involvement.
