The agenda of the September session of the Bolesławiec County Council included a vote on draft resolutions concerning the removal of county-road status. They concerned two streets in Bolesławiec: Grunwaldzka and Komuny Paryskiej.

Before that happened, Jan Russ, head of the Wolny Bolesławiec councillors’ club, spoke. He asked the starost whether the County still had any roads in the city that had not been renovated, and whether it would have been possible to transfer to the Municipal Commune a recently renovated road in exchange for one that still required renovation.

Starost Tomasz Gabrysiak recalled that the investment on Grunwaldzka was financed with funds from UMWD. He added:

Roads in the city are the most expensive to maintain, both on an ongoing basis and in winter. If the mayor expressed a willingness to take over the remaining roads, I would gladly hand them over to him, but I am afraid he would not be interested.

The head of the County Board noted that the local government would soon have to take over additional kilometres of regional roads. This could be between 20 and 30 km. It would then be necessary to transfer a similar number of kilometres to the communes in the county.

The discussion was joined by Karol Stasik, head of the Platforma Samorządowa councillors’ club:

I am very pleased that more roads are being taken off the County’s hands and transferred to another local government. And the fact that they were renovated beforehand? No one rejects anything bad, while a good road is easier to transfer.

I think this is a good direction, beneficial for the County.

The county councillors unanimously adopted both resolutions. From next year, both of the aforementioned roads are to be managed by the Municipal Commune of Bolesławiec.
