The Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office sent a letter to the Emergency Medical Services in Legnica. Investigators are demanding an explanation of why photographs appeared on the medical responders’ Facebook profile that show in great detail both the scene of the accident that occurred on the A4 on September 1 and the people carrying out official duties—even the… person being resuscitated.
According to the prosecutor’s office, such photographs should never have been made public. (Importantly, the photos are still available on the aforementioned medical responders’ profile.)
The investigators understand the emergency service’s intentions—the desire to show how difficult this work is—but in their view, the photographs presented should have been more restrained, and the publication itself should have been agreed with the authority conducting the proceedings.
What happens next?
The prosecutor’s office is awaiting the Legnica emergency service’s official position. Whether proceedings will be initiated in this case depends on the responders’ reply. We will return to the subject.
As a reminder, the tragedy occurred on September 1, 2019, on the A4 motorway, near the villages of Osła and Szczytnica in Bolesławiec County. A bus carrying six passengers and driven by Wojciecha K. hit an energy-absorbing barrier and then overturned.
Five bus passengers died at the scene, while one person was seriously injured. (The man was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Wrocław.)

The vehicle’s driver was also injured and was hospitalized, but his life was not in danger.
A prosecutor, together with the police investigative team, carried out activities at the scene. Among other things, a preliminary expert opinion on road accidents was obtained.
As established by the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office, the tragedy occurred as a result of the driver’s failure to exercise due caution and failure to adjust his speed to the road conditions.

The man was charged with unintentionally causing a disaster in land traffic. The suspect did not plead guilty to the alleged offense.
At the request of the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office, on September 3 the court applied pretrial detention to Wojciecha K. for three months. K. faces up to eight years in prison.
