The tragedy occurred on September 1, 2019, on the A4 motorway, near the towns of Osła and Szczytnica in Bolesławiec County. The bus, carrying six passengers and driven by Wojciech K., hit an energy-absorbing barrier and then overturned.
Five bus passengers died at the scene, while one person was seriously injured. (The man was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Wrocław.)
Prosecutor’s Office:
The driver was also injured and hospitalized, but his life was not in danger.
A prosecutor and a police investigative team conducted activities at the scene. Among other things, a preliminary opinion from a road-accident expert was obtained.
The Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office determined that the tragedy resulted from the driver’s failure to exercise due caution and failure to adjust his speed to the road conditions.

The man was charged with unintentionally causing a disaster in land transport. The suspect did not admit to committing the alleged offense.
At the request of the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office, the court ordered Wojciech K. held in temporary custody for three months on September 3. K. faces up to 8 years in prison.
