The first Blues Night ended in success. “We were surprised that so many people came to our concert,” says Marcin Sarkowicz, bassist of Chłopaki z Ferajny. “A good audience means good fun. It is always great to play for a wonderful audience.”

Indeed, the concert, held on Friday, June 12, at Galeria Concordia, attracted numerous fans of blues and rock'n'roll. The atmosphere recalled the best years of blues in our city.

All this was thanks to the excellent musicians, once associated with such groups as Obstawa Prezydenta, Margines, Blues Beer and The Complice, as well as their no less talented friends. Songs by Dżem, “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love” by The Blues Brothers, “Ain't No Sunshine” by Bill Withers, “Rock and Roll” by Led Zeppelin and “Zadowolić Zośkę” by Obstawa Prezydenta were just some of the hits that could be heard during Friday’s concert.

The event was opened by the group Rock Tower. “I hope that Blues Night in Bolesławiec will become a recurring event,” says Andrzej Grabowski, the band’s vocalist and guitarist. “We know that members of many garage bands who would like to play on this stage came to the concert.”

However, the audience was waiting above all for Chłopaki z Ferajny. “It is a group of friends who meet once every six months. Practically every one of us lives in a different city. So perhaps it did not sound very professional today, but we certainly played with all our heart,” said Maciej Tylenda, the band’s vocalist, after the concert.

The performance by the band, which plays a mixture of blues, funk, rock and soul, proved that Bolesławiec is not merely a city of ceramics. “Blues has always been present in Bolesławiec. People have always played and loved it. And they still want to listen to it, especially in the age of plastic,” Tylenda emphasizes. “I absorbed blues with my mother’s milk. To me, it is the only true music, flowing from the depths of the heart. There is no pretending here, because there cannot be. Rysiek Riedel sang about his life, about pain; about how difficult it is to live. That is what blues is based on, and that is why I love it, because it is very real.”

“It is music for everyone,” adds Marcin Sarkowicz. “It does not matter whether someone is a dentist, drives a car professionally or is a director. Anyone can come and play the blues.”

The event ended with a jam session. The next edition of Blues Night in Bolesławiec will take place in a year.
