Saturday’s evacuation of more than 3,000 Bolesławiec residents may not have been the last one. As we read on the Facebook profile of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Patrol No. 23 of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment in Bolesławiec:
[…] after relocating the utility lines, in the coming days we will dig up the embankment much deeper using heavy equipment to completely rule out the presence of unexploded ordnance at this site in the future.
Sappers on Saturday’s operation
The area will be examined again, which means that further evacuations cannot be ruled out.
We will certainly return to this subject.
Let us recall. On Saturday, August 31, at 9:00 a.m., another evacuation of residents began. Police officers informed people about it by going from house to house.
Besides the police and municipal guards, the area around the construction site where unexploded ordnance was found, including artillery shells, was also secured by fire service units and emergency medical teams. The evacuation affected more than 3,000 people.
The operation to remove unexploded ordnance from the construction site of a retail park at Staroszkolna, Chrobrego and Hutnicza streets ended at around 5:00 p.m.
Vehicle traffic was resumed on the streets adjacent to the construction site. People were able to return home.
Thirty-seven different items were found.
