Currently, the planned renovation works include, among other things, a comprehensive redevelopment with the reinforcement of ceilings, renovation and reconstruction of the façade, replacement of window frames with wooden ones, and roof replacement. The scope of the planned works includes the redevelopment of the building’s interior. The building will be adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. The area surrounding the station will also be redeveloped.

The renovation plans for the PKP railway station are very good news for the people of Bolesławiec. It is worth recalling that, as part of preparations for the construction of the Subregional Transport Interchange, work is already underway on the preparation of design documentation. The planned centre will reduce the inconvenience of changing means of transport to a minimum. A transport interchange is an optimal place for concentrating long-distance, including international, passenger traffic—for obvious reasons, for train passengers, since the PKP railway station is an integral part of the centre, but also for international coach and minibus services whose routes run through Bolesławiec. Users of the transport interchange will have access to, among other things, car parks, multi-storey car parks, a waiting room, service and office premises, ticket offices, toilets and parking bays.

It is worth noting that Bolesławiec, together with eight other institutions from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Slovenia, succeeded in obtaining funding from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the project “TEN-T Passenger Transport Connections of Border Regions/TRANS-BORDERS—Construction of a Transport Interchange in Bolesławiec.” The City of Bolesławiec received funding to develop the concept and complete design documentation for the construction of the transport interchange. In January 2019, an agreement was signed for the preparation of design documentation for the Subregional Transport Interchange in Bolesławiec. The agreement covers the preparation of design documentation, technical specifications for the execution and acceptance of construction works, and investor’s cost estimates, as well as obtaining all administrative decisions authorising the commencement of construction works and providing author’s supervision during the implementation phase of the investment.

In the area of the planned transport interchange—near the existing railway station—both residents and tourists will be able to change their means of transport, such as a train, bus, bicycle (the BROM programme—Bolesławiec City Bike, which allows users to rent a bicycle quickly and easily) or another means of transport. An important element in the vicinity of the transport interchange is the planned changes to, among other things, the traffic system along B. Chrobrego and T. Kościuszki streets. It is worth noting that the multimodal nature of the investment is intended to reduce individual car traffic, which will have a positive impact on the environment by reducing air pollution emissions and noise levels. The convenient location and integrated nature of the transport interchange will also contribute to the further economic development of the city and region, particularly at a time when businesses are experiencing a noticeable shortage of workers. It is also worth noting that urban bus transport in Bolesławiec is free for all users.
