Statement by the Mayor of Bolesławiec dated August 31, 2019
The Mayor informs that, due to the need to remove unexploded ordnance from the city: today, August 31, 2019, from 11:00 until further notice:
- Vehicle traffic will be halted in the danger zone on the following streets: Słowackiego, Żwirki i Wigury, Hutnicza, Fabryczna, Piotra i Pawła, Królowej Jadwigi, Bolesława Chrobrego from the intersection with Żwirki i Wigury to the intersection with al. Tysiąclecia, Staroszkolna from the intersection with Jana Pawła II to the intersection with Bolesława Chrobrego, and the rear access road to Asnyka.
- Bus services in the city (all routes) will be suspended.
The evacuation began at 9:00. Police officers are notifying residents by going from house to house. In addition to the police and municipal police, the area around the construction site where the unexploded ordnance was found—including artillery shells—is also being secured by fire service units and emergency medical teams. More than 3,000 people will be evacuated.
Statement by the Mayor of Bolesławiec dated August 30, 2019
Due to the threat to people’s health and lives caused by unexploded ordnance from World War II found in Bolesławiec on Staroszkolna Street (the former Eastern Railway Station), I order the evacuation of all people staying in the city of Bolesławiec in properties located on the following streets:
- Adama Asnyka, numbers 10 to 22a
- Bolesława Chrobrego: even numbers 14–42, odd numbers from the headquarters of Gerresheimer (15) to the intersection with Aleja Tysiąclecia,
- Aleja Tysiąclecia 1,
- Juliusza Słowackiego 13,
- Staroszkolna 2ab and 4ab,
- Ciesielska,
- Fabryczna,
- Hutnicza,
- Królowej Jadwigi,
- Piotra i Pawła,
- Żwirki i Wigury.
The evacuation will take place on August 31, 2019 (Saturday), from 9:00 to 11:00. Removal of the unexploded ordnance will begin at 12:00 and continue until further notice.
Rooms at Primary School No. 1 at 38c Jana Pawła II Street have been prepared for the duration of the evacuation, where people can take shelter. For this purpose, MZK buses will be provided at bus stops on Bolesława Chrobrego and Żwirki i Wigury. Buses will depart at 9:30, 10:00, 10:30 and 11:00.
People who need assistance with evacuation or medical transport are asked to call 604 112 842 or 604 220 085 on Friday until 21:00 and on Saturday until 9:00. After that, such needs should be reported to Police officers working in the area.
From 11:00:
- vehicle traffic in the danger zone will be halted until further notice,
- all bus services in the city will be suspended until further notice.
We will announce the end of the evacuation by SMS, on the city website and through voice announcements.
