On Monday, 2 September, ceremonies marking the start of the 2019/20 school year were held at the school’s new premises. Representatives of the Government and the Parliament of the Republic of Poland, the Marshal’s Office of Lower Silesia, the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Office and the Lower Silesian Education Superintendent’s Office attended the opening.
“The school is being equipped with all the equipment needed by the children and young people,” said starosta Tomasz Gabrysiak. “The development of the area around the school, planting greenery and, above all, renovating the building’s façade are works we decided to add to the basic scope of the project. This was made possible by a grant we obtained from the INTERREG Poland–Saxony Cooperation Programme,” the starosta added.
In addition to classrooms, the school will have a kitchen with a dining room, rooms for various types of therapy, including sensory therapy, comprehensive sanitary facilities, a gymnasium and two lifts. Outside, there will be a safe playground and a sports field.
The reconstruction of the facility at 8 Bankowa Street in Bolesławiec began in 2018. Its value was estimated at PLN 1,790,000. Powiat Bolesławiecki, as the authority responsible for the Powiat School and Special Education Facilities Complex in Bolesławiec, received funding for the investment through its partnership with the German Bautzen District, as part of the project “Expansion of the Cross-Border Educational Offer of Bolesławiec and Bautzen.” The funding, amounting to EUR 402,000, comes from the INTERREG POLAND–SAXONY 2014–2020 Cooperation Programme. The total cost of reconstructing the school was PLN 6,100,000.
