Eight new surveillance devices will appear in the city. Additional cameras will be installed in the Market Square and on a high-rise building on the side facing Piłsudskiego Square. The cameras will also monitor the playground on Łukasiewicza Street, Jana Pawła and Starzyńskiego streets, as well as the intersections of Gałczyńskiego and Staroszkolna streets, Łokietka and Kubika streets, Staszica Street, and Wróblewski and Cieszkowski streets. Installation of the new cameras will begin in September.
The locations for installing the devices were determined based on a “map of dangerous incidents.” The cameras’ technical specifications allow faces or vehicle registration numbers to be identified regardless of the weather or time of day. Incidents recorded by the cameras are monitored at the surveillance center, which is located on the premises of the District Police Headquarters. The system allows images to be archived for 25 days.
The city has allocated a total of PLN 480,000 for the construction of the system. Three cameras were installed last year. In the future, surveillance will cover the entire city. The city authorities asked companies operating in Bolesławiec to contribute to the costs. The first to respond was the PZU S.A. Inspectorate. The company undertook to contribute PLN 15,000.
To this day, despite the promises, cable television subscribers cannot view images from the selected locations. “That will change soon,” said network owner Leszek Burchardt. During the summer holidays, a television channel is to be prepared on which reduced-size images from several cameras will be visible.
