According to the “Calendar of sports events initiated by the Lower Silesian Provincial Commander of the State Fire Service in Wrocław in 2019,” the 7th Lower Silesian Voivodeship Championships of PSP Firefighters in Beach Volleyball were held on August 16–17, 2019, at the MOSiR Water and Sports Centre on Spacerowa Street in Bolesławiec. (The first three editions were held in Milicz, and since 2016 the beach volleyball championships have been organized in Bolesławiec.)

Junior Fire Service Brigadier Piotr Pilarczyk, deputy county commander of the PSP in Bolesławiec:

Four years of experience confirms that the two-day format of the competition is the right solution. Holding the competition during the Bolesławiec Ceramic Festival has also proved successful. It is an attractive format for the competitors: an opportunity to take part in ceramic fairs and cultural events organized in the city, as well as additional promotion for the “City of Ceramics.”

Seventeen pairs entered the competition for the title of Lower Silesian Voivodeship Champion, representing municipal and county commands from across the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. In total, representatives of 10 PSP organizational units from the voivodeship took part: the Municipal PSP Headquarters in Wrocław (2 pairs), Jelenia Góra (2 pairs), the County PSP Headquarters in Góra, Lwówek Śląski, Świdnica, Milicz, Oleśnica, Zgorzelec (2 pairs), Trzebnica and Bolesławiec (4 pairs), as well as one pair formed by firefighters from Bolesławiec and Góra—named “Bolesławiec on top”—which, as it later turned out, was true, but… required turning the results table upside down.

The competition was opened by the Lower Silesian Provincial Commander of the State Fire Service, Senior Fire Service Brigadier Adam Konieczny, accompanied by the co-organizers: County Commander of the PSP in Bolesławiec, Fire Service Brigadier Andrzej Śliwowski, and MOSiR director Jacek Dudyński.

The final was contested by pairs from Zgorzelec and Wrocław. The championship—with a 2:0 result (21:18, 21:19)—was won by Łukasz Mesjasz and Szymon Szklarz from the Zgorzelec command. It is worth noting that Łukasz Mesjasz was until recently a player for the second-league volleyball team BTS Bolesławiec.

1. County PSP Headquarters in Zgorzelec (pair A)
2. Municipal PSP Headquarters in Wrocław (pair B)

The competition was summarized and the cups and prizes were presented by Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman and Fire Service Brigadier Andrzej Śliwowski.

Additional prize competitions were held to make the event more attractive:

  • “accuracy serve”—hitting the end line
  • “difficult serve”—the ball had to touch the upper tape of the net and land on the court.
