Members of the Poznań-based Pomost Association carried out exhumation work in Wykroty (Nowogrodziec municipality) on Thursday, August 1.
Organization:
On the outskirts of the village was a forgotten grave, where both its current and former German residents had laid flowers in the past. According to eyewitness accounts, after the hostilities ended in 1945, the bodies of civilians and wrecked horse-drawn wagons lay on the road near the grave. Shortly after the war, one of the residents of Zebrzydowa came across human remains at this location, moved them and buried them near the road.
The association found the remains of three people there: a woman, a man and a several-year-old child, as well as individual animal bones.

The Pomost Association was founded in 1997 by Poles and Germans. Its founders wanted to try to repair, in some way, the poor relations that had developed between the Polish and German nations, particularly over the previous 60 years.
Initially, the association’s activities focused on documenting wartime events in the Polish-German border region. Later, however, they were expanded to include ecumenical meetings, the maintenance of war cemeteries, archaeological work and many other joint Polish-German activities.
