This is certainly very good news for future patients of the county hospital in Bolesławiec. Air conditioning is to be installed in the outpatient clinic building, as well as in the departments—especially neurology and intensive care.

This is not the end of the good news concerning the Bolesławiec ZOZ. The facility is to have its own magnetic resonance imaging scanner. “Our hospital does not currently have such equipment,” explains starost Tomasz Gabrysiak. “All patients who need this type of examination are taken to nearby hospitals, which is an additional inconvenience and entails extra costs. But time is also important. In the case of strokes or cerebral hemorrhages, it is crucial for diagnostics to be carried out immediately.”

All local governments will contribute to the purchase of a new MRI scanner for the Bolesławiec ZOZ. The county has allocated nearly PLN 800,000 for this purpose; the City of Bolesławiec will contribute almost PLN 1.2 million. The remaining municipalities are expected to contribute PLN 160,000–450,000 each.

An operating table with the necessary equipment will also be purchased. “All of this is intended to enable the hospital to provide more services and, consequently, increase its revenue,” emphasizes the head of the Bolesławiec County Board. “The new year will mark a new beginning for the hospital.”

“Amid the permanent crisis in which the healthcare system finds itself, this is an institution that needs to function and develop,” says the new director of the ZOZ, Kamil Barczyk.

What does the hospital’s new head believe should be developed? Diagnostic imaging, outpatient care, oncological treatment and endoprosthetic surgery. As for the latter, waiting lists are currently very long. Thanks to the planned purchases, the ZOZ will be able to perform many more operations, for which it will receive funding from the NFZ (these procedures are not subject to limits). This will certainly shorten the waiting lists.

“Intensive work is under way on the tender procedures and the entire documentation,” says Kamil Barczyk. “The hospital currently spends around PLN 3 million a year on external services (MRI, CT scans, X-rays and ultrasound examinations). Comprehensive diagnostics must be available at the Bolesławiec facility; this is the foundation of proper patient treatment.”
