The Nowogrodziec local government website has published information about the revitalization of the Market Square and Kościuszki Street in the town. Officials:

The existing public-space infrastructure was adapted to the needs and expectations of residents and people with disabilities, aesthetics were improved, and, above all, the social, cultural and recreational functions were restored.

The revitalization contributed to improving residents’ quality of life through a range of complementary measures covering the social, economic, technical, spatial-functional and environmental spheres. Positive changes took place in the area receiving support as a result of the revitalization. In the social sphere, there was an improvement primarily in the quality of social capital. Residents became more integrated and participation in the life of the town increased. Social awareness and bonds also grew, as did responsibility for the immediate surroundings.

They add:

The revitalized area has become significantly livelier, making it a showcase for the entire gmina and restoring the area’s former splendor. In the technical sphere, spatial order was improved.

What was carried out, among other things?

  • Parking spaces were removed from the inner part of the Market Square. (This made it possible to “create, around the town hall building, a space highlighting its architectural qualities and providing a venue for cultural events and meetings of residents and tourists.”)
  • Avenue tree plantings
  • Stronger lighting emphasizing the façade
  • Site-development elements were dismantled and lighting poles were removed
  • Pedestrian, vehicular and shared pedestrian-vehicular surfaces were constructed
  • Parking spaces, as well as entrance and landscape stairs, were constructed.

Local government:

The scope of work included adapting the revitalized area to the needs of people with disabilities, including removing architectural barriers along pedestrian routes and at curb cuts from sidewalks to the roadway.
